The Whisky Jury - Ben Nevis 1996 Single Malt Scotch Whisky - 28YO - 47.8% - 70cl
This Ben Nevis 1996, selected by The Whisky Jury, pays tribute to the previous owner of the cask, Derek John Smith. Cask number 1321 is part of the 1300 series, known among enthusiasts for producing bottlings that are regularly selected. Distilled in 1996 and aged for 28 years in hogshead casks, this single malt offers great depth and complexity shaped by time. Although Derek John Smith only lived to the age of 44 and acquired this cask during the last year of his life, his family kept it before entrusting The Whisky Jury with the task of perpetuating his memory through this bottling. A whisky steeped in history and emotion.
Slàinte, Derek.

Ben Nevis distillery was established not far from Fort William in 1825, and it stands in the shadow of its namesake, Scotland's highest mountain. Founded by 'Long John' McDonald (famed for his great height, hence his nickname), Joseph Hobbs is the one who introduced the installation of concrete washbacks and a Coffey still, in order to produce both grain and malt spirit, and blend them on the premises. Ben Nevis has had a number of owners and it was acquired in 1989 by the Japanese Nikka Whisky Distilling Company Ltd and therefore, some of his spirit made is shipped to Japan for several Nikka blended whiskies. Old bottlings of Ben Nevis appear from time to time, and this is one them.
