The Roots N° 23 - Bruichladdich Lochindaal 2010 - Single Malt Scotch Whisky - 15YO - 52.8% - 70cl -
With The Roots #23, the spotlight is on Bruichladdich’s Lochindaal expression, a very peated style positioned between Port Charlotte and Octomore. This bottling reveals the wildest face of the distillery, with a deliberately farmy, “dirty” profile. On the nose, this 2010 release offers dense smoke, hay, barnyard notes, tar, seaweed, black pepper and lemon zest for added tension. The palate is thick and highly expressive, showing deeply peaty, earthy and maritime character, supported by saline, spicy and slightly fruity accents. The finish is long and persistent, firmly rooted in Bruichladdich’s identity, balancing rusticity and precision.

Bruichladdich, founded in 1881 on the island of Islay, embodies innovation and authenticity in the world of Scotch whisky. Going against the grain of its neighbors, Bruichladdich was first recognized for its low-peat whiskies, with their emphasis on subtlety and complexity. Relaunched in 2000, Bruichladdich has retained its artisanal methods, using original copper stills and prolonged fermentation to develop a unique, elegant and floral aromatic profile. Its emblematic ranges - Bruichladdich Classic (unpeated), Port Charlotte (peated to 40 ppm), and Octomore (ultra-peated, sometimes over 200 ppm) enable every whisky lover to find a whisky that speaks to them, from sweetness to thrills. The Lochindaal name, used for certain highly peated releases, refers to the nearby loch and to an intensely smoky style that showcases Bruichladdich’s expertise across the full peat spectrum. Resolutely focused on sustainability, the distillery supports local agriculture by collaborating with Islay farmers to produce terroir-grown barley, while aiming for carbon neutrality by 2020. Boldly, Bruichladdich dares to mature in wine, rum or champagne casks, and has introduced “Islay Barley” editions, offering an authentic taste of the island. More than a whisky, a Bruichladdich is an immersion in the singular character of Islay, and an adventure for the taste buds that will appeal to connoisseurs and collectors alike.
The Roots, founded by Joren, is a relatively new independent bottler on the spirits scene, dedicated to discovering and showcasing the most distinctive and authentic spirits. These enthusiasts strive to reveal hidden distillery treasures, offering unique bottlings with enchanting, fairy-tale packaging. With limited production, The Roots makes no compromises: quality comes before quantity!
Like all “The Roots” productions, this is a natural-colored, non-cold-filtered whisky. Aged in Hogshead casks. Rare expression of the Bruichladdich distillery!
