The Whisky Jury - Laguille 1971 - Bas-Armagnac - 53 YO - 42.8% - 70cl -
Drawn from two dame-jeannes filled earlier that year, this 1971 Armagnac reveals a truly distinctive profile. Limited to only 144 bottles and bottled at its natural strength of 42.8%, it immediately stands out for its originality. Its character recalls great aged wines as much as traditional Armagnac, bringing to mind old Pinot Noir and mature dry Madeira. Oxidised southern fruits intertwine with herbal notes, infused tea and waxy nuances before leading into a finish marked by furniture polish and gentle spices. More than five decades of maturation have shaped a spirit of remarkable complexity and individuality. A rare bottling for enthusiasts seeking old Armagnacs with unique personality and depth.

Domaine de Laguille is one of the historic family-owned estates of Bas-Armagnac, located near Eauze in the heart of the Gers region. Its origins date back to the nineteenth century and it remains one of the few producers to control every stage of production, from vineyard to bottling. Established on the famous sandy soils of Bas-Armagnac, a terroir renowned for producing some of the region’s most elegant and aromatic eaux-de-vie, Laguille cultivates traditional varieties including Baco, Ugni Blanc and Colombard. Distillation is carried out using a traditional continuous Armagnac still, a method that preserves aromatic richness while maintaining the character of the original wine. The spirits are then matured for many years in Gascon oak casks, gradually developing notes of dried fruit, wax, sweet spices, tobacco and rancio. Known for its vintage Armagnacs, often aged for several decades before bottling, Domaine de Laguille produces spirits of remarkable depth where time reveals the full expression of the terroir. The oldest vintages frequently display layers of candied fruit, tea, oxidative notes, precious woods and exceptional length. This patient and artisanal approach has made Laguille a highly respected name among enthusiasts of mature Armagnac and independent bottlers.
