Located in Labastide-d’Armagnac at the heart of the “golden triangle” of Bas-Armagnac, Château Garreau – also known as Domaine de Gayrosse – extends over 82 hectares straddling the Landes and the Gers. The vineyard covers 27 hectares, managed with sustainable farming and certified HVE, rooted in the famous sables fauves that give birth to refined and elegant eaux-de-vie. The distillery owns two traditional copper Armagnac stills (1919 and 1932), still in operation today. The wines from Baco, Ugni Blanc, and Folle Blanche grapes are distilled separately, in order to preserve the typicity of each variety before blending. This mastery “from vine to glass” allows the house style to be precisely adjusted from one vintage to the next. Maturation is one of the estate’s signatures: the Armagnacs age in oak casks in a century-old underground cellar, unique in Armagnac, where naturally stable temperature and humidity encourage slow oxidation and aromatic refinement (notes of plum, sweet spices, vanilla, rancio with age). It is also here that the estate’s vintage bottlings and XO/Hors d’Âge cuvées are born.
