At Grape of the Art, they are passionate rum lovers, and it is always a pleasure for them to discover unique spirits to share with the Armagnac community. It had been a while since they selected such a singular Armagnac, a profile that unmistakably evokes rum, to the point it could easily fool you in a blind tasting.
It is undoubtedly one of the most surprising Armagnacs they have tasted so far. It reveals a remarkable bouquet blending ripe fruits, smoky honey, and that famous "Rockley" note well-known to enthusiasts of exuberant rums.

Located in the heart of Bas-Armagnac, in Sorbets (Gers), Château de Laubade is a leading name in the world of fine Armagnacs. Founded in 1870 and owned by the Lesgourgues family since 1974, the estate has mastered the art of distillation and ageing with both rigor and passion. On more than 105 hectares of single-variety vineyards, Laubade produces premium Armagnacs by controlling the entire production chain—from vine to bottle. The traditional grape varieties—Ugni Blanc, Baco 22A, Folle Blanche, and Colombard—are cultivated using sustainable viticulture practices: natural grass cover, compost made from grape pomace, no herbicides, and energy recovery through the combustion of local wood to fuel the stills. Distillation is continuous, using traditional copper Armagnac stills, and follows a single distillation process that preserves the rich aromatic profile of the eaux-de-vie. Ageing takes place exclusively in Gascony oak casks, most of them made by local coopers, in cellars with precisely controlled humidity. Each Laubade Armagnac reveals a unique aromatic palette, featuring notes of prune, dried fruit, sweet spices, beeswax, and blond tobacco. From VSOP to XO, including rare vintages (sometimes 30, 40, or even 50 years old), Laubade offers a collection that will appeal to both enthusiasts and collectors.
“Grape of the Art” (GotA) is a project that showcases exceptional Armagnacs and Cognacs, bottled in single casks and without reduction, to satisfy rum and whisky lovers. The concept was born of a group of enthusiasts in Stuttgart who, after discovering the quality and diversity of Armagnacs, decided to devote themselves to this French eau-de-vie. Their aim is to reveal the hidden treasures of small producers by selecting rare, unaltered casks.
