Grape Of The Art - Armagnac Espérance 2003 - 19YO - 48.4% - 70cl -
This is Domaine d'Espérance, run by the venerable and universally respected Claire de Montesquiou, who is a direct descendant of d'Artagnan, the famous musketeer! Say hello to Espérance 2003!
The bouquet is pretty much the antithesis of the very dark Hontambere 1983, with the brightest fruit almost jumping out at you: apricots, mirabelles, quince and yellow apples! Spring flowers bloom among all this, and a sweetness of acacia honey spreads out! Lemon zest greets you! It's even remotely reminiscent of a young cognac! On the palate, bright fruit caresses the tongue with its freshness, sweet honey adds sweetness and fine acidity ensures a balanced and exciting taste experience!

The 45-hectare Domaine d'Espérance in Bas-Armagnac is planted on sandy-clay soils enriched with iron, characteristic of the “Sables Fauves”, renowned for their influence on the fruity aromas of Armagnacs. Half the vines are dedicated to distillation (Baco 22A, Folle Blanche), while the other half produce white wines (Gros Manseng, Ugni Blanc) and red wines (Tannat, Cabernet-Sauvignon). Armagnac production follows the traditional method with barrel aging in their cellars, offering varied vintages and a range of eaux-de-vie.
“Grape of the Art” (GotA) is a project that showcases exceptional Armagnacs and Cognacs, bottled in single casks and without reduction, to satisfy rum and whisky lovers. The concept was born of a group of enthusiasts in Stuttgart who, after discovering the quality and diversity of Armagnacs, decided to devote themselves to this French eau-de-vie. Their aim is to reveal the hidden treasures of small producers by selecting rare, unaltered casks.
