Grape Of The Art - LRV 2001 Haut-Armagnac - 23 YO - 51.8% - 70cl -

Sourced from Haut-Armagnac, a rare and discreet terroir in the southwest of France, it offers an intense and structured profile that will appeal equally to lovers of traditional Armagnac and enthusiasts of characterful whisky. On the nose, bright cherry takes the lead, reminiscent of certain old American Bourbons. It is accompanied by ripe plum, exotic hints of mango, vanilla, and delicate spices derived from long aging in oak casks. The palate is full and powerful, perfectly supported by its 51.8% ABV. The alcohol is remarkably well integrated, allowing dark fruits and spices to interact with precision. Each sip reveals new nuances, balancing fruity freshness with woody depth. The finish is long and persistent, marked by noble oak and a fine spicy tension. Overall, it gives the impression of a spirit far older than its 23 years of maturation suggest.

In the late 1980s, Bruno Compagnon, convinced of the excellence of the terroir of Haut-Armagnac, threw himself into reviving Haut Armagnac which had all but disappeared from production since the Phylloxera epidemic of the late 19th century. He decided to replant the vineyards of LaRoche-Vacquié overlooking Lectoure, the historical capital of the Counts of Armagnac, eventually returning the entire estate to its original plantation as a vineyard. In 1997, the Minister of Agriculture bestowed the insignia of Knight of the Order of Agricultural Merit – second in importance only to the Legion of Honor– to Bruno Compagnon for reintroducing Haut Armagnac. Since then, the family has carried on its traditions with dedication and respect for the exceptional terroirs and age-old know-how of the property.
Since 2008, the Compagnons, father Bruno and son Morgan, have converted the vineyards of LaRoche-Vacquié into a fully organic estate. In order to reach full sustainability, one of the first solar farms of the area was built on the estate in 2011. Morgan officially relaunched the brand internationally in 2022.
“Grape of the Art” (GotA) is a project that showcases exceptional Armagnacs and Cognacs, bottled in single casks and without reduction, to satisfy rum and whisky lovers. The concept was born of a group of enthusiasts in Stuttgart who, after discovering the quality and diversity of Armagnacs, decided to devote themselves to this French eau-de-vie. Their aim is to reveal the hidden treasures of small producers by selecting rare, unaltered casks.
